Jewellery’s enduring layering trend shows no sign of abating but this effortless, thrown together style is not always easy to achieve. However here are a few simple rules that will have you layering like a pro in no time!
Firstly, vary your chain lengths. This allows your trinkets and pendants to cascade in layers rather than cluster together. (Note: clusters are great for adding playful interest within your layers – achieve this by simply threading multiple pendants onto a single chain.)
Secondly, mix it up. Don’t be afraid to play with scale and direction. Bar pendants are particularly good for breaking up the vertical rhythm. They are also a great way to personalise your look by engraving your name, meaningful date or mantra.
Thirdly, make it odd. It myst be my design training, but to me things always look better in odd rather than even number. Hence 3 chains instead of 4.
Fourthly, get the backdrop right. Whether you go for the all out glamour of the plunging neckline and bare skin or a relaxing t-shirt with your favourite jeans, don’t over do it. Let the jewellery shine through.
Finally and most importantly, be brave and have fun with it.
